PRACTICAL USE

Conversion of the Chinese dates into dates of another time zone:

Keeping in mind the time difference in different time zones, as well as introduction of summer/winter time in different countries, we can calculate the following examples:

chrono1

In November, 15:02 in Helsinki (UT +2) corresponds to 21:02 in Beijing (UT +8).

In June, 16:02 in Helsinki (UT +2 +1 hour summer time) corresponds to 21:02 in Beijing (UT +8).

*** This also concerns the date change momentsFor example, in Helsinki on 15th of November starting from 18:00 we should take into account that it is already 16th of November according to the Chinese Calendar! The binary for 18:30 on 15.11.2016 is

But in Helsinki at 18:30 on 15.11.2016 we should use the next day’s binary

THE MAIN REGULARITY THAT MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT.

Circadian cycle of channels activity - the main channels together with connecting and divergent channels vary their activity during the day (see the table), the same is true for the organs the channels are correlated with.

Calculation of the ‘Chinese’ 24-hour period beginning for a location outside China:

The ‘Chinese day’ (24-hour period) for all places located on the same meridian start at the same time. For the Greenwich meridian it is 23.00 UT (GMT) (LT=23 h 00m). To calculate the exact time of the 24-hour period beginning for your place, you need to know the longitude and the time zone of your place.

For example, in the centre of Helsinki city in winter the 24-hour period starts at 22:20:

T = 23 h 00m +2h +0h –24,9383 *4m = 25 h 00m – 99,75m = 25 h 00m - 2h 39,75m = 22 h 20m

For example, in the centre of Helsinki city in summer the 24-hour period starts at 23:20 :

T = 23 h 00m +2h +1h – 24,9383 *4m = 26 h 00m – 99,75m = 26 h 00m - 2h 39,75m = 23 h 20m

Where: - 2h - the 2-hour difference with the Greenwich meridian, 1h - plus one hour of summer time, 4m- 4 minutes for every degree of longitude, longitude degrees and minutes are blue (the product is in the form of ‘hours-minutes’).

The beginning of the lung channel activity starts the cycle. The channel has maximum activity during one watch, and then its activity gradually declines, passes the minimum and starts to increase again.

From the YIN watch on, channels of the first QI-XUE circuit (TAIYIN and YANGMING segments) are active, from the WU watch on - channels of the second circuit (TAIYANG and SHAOYIN segments), from the XU watch - of the third (SHAOYANG and JUEYIN segments).

We approximate the watch length to be 2 hours, though it is astronomically incorrect, since the watches were calculated in accordance with sunrise and sunset in China. So we should use the correction method described above.

Use in Treatment:

According to the Circadian cycle of channels activity:

Manipulation at the time of maximum activity of the channel is most effective (when we choose to work with one isolated channel).

According to the tables of open points in the book (the tables present the results of open points calculation using different methods):

  • we accumulated several methods used by Chinese doctors; it is not possible to assess the effectiveness of every point in this book
  • the state of a point (open or not) can be verified by palpation, the point feel different from the other points in the vicinity – by both the doctor and the patient
  • the use of open points in your practice will give you the chance to assess the effectiveness of the methods offered, and adjust your methods according to your experience

*** besides, several applications for Android, Windows, and Mac are available now for calculation of open points. The programs vary in accuracy and details; we suggest the necessity of verifying the results by palpation.

Calculation of open points

Open points tables (for shu-points, for pairs of extraordinary channels, according to the "Earth Branches" method, according to the "Heaven Stems" method, according to the "Zhuke Yuanluo peixue" method, according to the production cycle method)

*** In understanding this complex topic, the author of the book by the Chinese author Liu Bing Quan CH “Choosing the right time for acupuncture” (Shandong 1988), as well as a variety of information on the Chinese calendar and its use in medicine. We made our own program for calculating the opening time of points for acupuncture for Windows back in 2001.

    • Definition of open points according to the "Earth Branches" method
    • Definition of open points according to the "Heaven Stems" method
    • Definition of open "five shu" points
    • Definition of open points similar to the "five shu" points
    • "Zhuke Yuanluo peixue" method
    • Use of Extraordinary channels ("Ling Gui Bafa" method)
    • Time of the day and the "Fei Teng Bafa" method
    • Definition of open points according to the theory of partner days
    • Definition of open points according to the five elements production cycle
    • Additional points on the TR and MC channels
